Lossless mode rewrites the file structure, removes unused objects and deduplicates resources. Raster mode re-encodes each page as a JPEG at the DPI and quality you choose, which makes scans and image-heavy files much smaller.
It depends on the file. Text-heavy PDFs often shrink 10–30% losslessly; scanned documents can shrink 60–90% in raster mode. If nothing can be reclaimed the download keeps the original at full quality.
